2014 was the second year BBM was involved in 'Volunteering for Charity' initiative where we looked at what we could do to give back to the community and the timing coincided with the lead up to the festive season. The goal for BBM was not just to find a worthy cause, of which there are many, but also to invest our time, rather than to just donate money. This time BBM extended the invitation to participate to all BBM sites and the response was very positive!
Supporting kids with cancer
Event: 'Robert Allenby Golf Day'. It is the cornerstone of the Challenge fundraising calendar which supports their programs & services. BBM Head Office team was involved in scoring and despite the 4-5 hours exposure to the heat, the Golf Day and Gala Dinner raised in excess of $250,000 which is an outstanding result.
Variety The Children's Charity
Empowering Victorian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn
Event: '2014 Variety Children's Christmas Party'. BBM Head Office teamed up with BBM Geelong in this event. The highlight was giving out presents to all the participating kids and seeing the smile on each child's face, which in many ways is the best Christmas present of all. Quoted from the team: "The team spirit from BBM was beautiful as we were all there for the same purpose. It was great to know that we were part of an event that supported disadvantaged children and their families".
Committing to raising awareness of issues across the nation to drive change and create real choices for young Australians and their families
Event: 'Christmas Wrapping for Youngcare'. Louise Ross BBM Pinkenba team said ""We had a good giggle leading up to the event – to make it a bit of fun, we would be dressed in elf outfits with green leggings. People were very friendly with some donating without getting a present wrapped. Would I do it again? YES. Did I feel good volunteering? YES."
Wheelchair Sports WA
Committing to improving the health and wellbeing of Western Australians living with a physical disability via engagement in lifestyle, recreational and sporting activities
Event: 'Wheelchair Sports WA Annual Charity Golf Day'. The overall amount raised was approx. $17,000, with $3,000 of this raised on the day via on course fundraising activities by the BBM Perth team. A quote from the team, "Supporting Wheelchair Sports was a great opportunity for us to give a little back to the community and support a very worthwhile cause (and help us to recognize and put into perspective how work problems are small compared to what is truly important in life)."
